POLONSKY SHAKESPEARE CENTER / TFANA
SAMUEL H. SCRIPPS MAINSTAGE
Brooklyn, New York
Theatre for a New Audience's new home is the Polonsky Shakespeare Center, located in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. The theatre was inspired by The National Theatre's Cottesloe, in London. Designed specifically for spoken word theatre, and more specifically Shakespeare, the theatre offers an intimacy and connectivity from stage to performer unlike the majority of theatres.
The three level courtyard theatre audience surrounds the stage creating an intimate performance space, perfect for Shakespeare or other forms of drama.
The stage and auditorium floor is comprised of a sophisticated reconfigurable platform system, and can be adjusted with platforming and movable seats to be an endstage, thrust, flat floor, or arena stage configurations.
Michael Ferguson provided theatre planning, theatre design, and performance equipment design and specification as individual effort while at a previous firm.
